Course Description

For Ages 9-10

What does it take to shape an idea and turn it into a reality? Synergising design, robotics, the social sciences and creative confidence – build the soft and hard skills you need to begin inventing a better future with technology.

The Short & Sweet
  • Weekly classes to shape growth in communicating ideas through code and tech
  • No experience necessary: Recommended for kids ages 9 and up
  • Ideate and prototype solutions to real world problems
  • Guided learning to practice coding concepts, develop kids’ confidence, and build their capacity as self-directed learners and coders
  • Develop logical thinking through game design principles

All you need to know

Kids are amazing innovators.

And we get wow-ed every time! Harness the potential of your child’s creative thought process and ignite their interest in learning by using tech as an expressive medium. Watch them turn their thoughts into action as they become creators in their own right!

We’ll apply the concepts of loops, conditionals and events to create exciting AND purposeful games! As with learning any new skill or language (or power!), practice makes progress. Through a project-based, applied learning approach, kids deepen their coding skills, build their creative confidence, and develop a higher level of mastery to set them up as self-directed programmers and learners.

They’ll also build their own Minecraft worlds using a drag-and-drop block-based code editor. In the process, kids will improve their understanding of core programming and computational thinking concepts, and use their creativity and imagination to make their very own world to play in!

And what’s a innovator without some hands-on experience? Beyond the virtual world, kids also unplug from the screens to explore tactile building! They get introduced to important programming concepts using a gentle visual programming interface, and also learn how objects can be created with a mix of both hardware and software. Go on, create your very own inventions, young ‘uns!

Our wish for kids is to stay true to their creative ideas and thoughts. Without a doubt, they’re already master innovators – we just need to provide a platform and a communication medium for them to express themselves, so that we can see the world through their eyes!

Oh! The stuff you'll learn

  • Apply coding concepts and real world themes to intermediate block-based programming projects
  • Facilitate the program development process by breaking down complex problems into smaller, manageable ones (Decomposing)
  • Exercise precision and attention to detail while solving puzzles
  • Increase complexity with Conditions, Variables, Boolean and Loops
  • Test and debug code using logic and systematic reasoning
  • Forming logical thought processes through game design principles
  • Understand real world social issues and how we can play a part in solving them with the skills learnt
  • Create entire virtual worlds and show others how you see the world through your eyes!

Life skills you'll learn

Creative Confidence
Game Design
Self-Directed Learning
Critical Thinking

Pedagogy

No lectures. No memorisation. No ONE right answer. Like real life, we're all about trying things out yourself, failing, figuring what went wrong & trying again. These are the skills & mindset that will last a lifetime and how we learn in real life. Let's get kids to learn how to learn. Because the kids who learn to learn become curious, inventive, resourceful human beings who solve real world problems to make a meaningful impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who is this course designed for?

This programme is great for all young learners ages 9-10. No prior experience with coding required, but if you do, that’s cool too!

  2. What’s the format of this course?

Master Innovators: Create With Tech is a weekly programme specially designed for 9-10 year olds to develop an understanding of tech! Each term of classes consists of 8 weekly lessons of 2 hours each.

  3. Can my child join in the next term of classes if s/he missed out on the previous term?

Absolutely! Whether for beginners or for those with slightly more experience, our term classes are designed to welcome new students at the start of every term 🙂 Do note however that we’re unable to include new students to an ongoing term as the lessons are progressive, so do sign up early to book your slot!

  4. What equipment will my child need?

We’ll provide all equipment and materials, but you may want to bring a jacket and light snacks in case s/he gets hungry!

  5. Are these classes available online?

We care deeply about optimising the learning experience of every child that passes through our doors, and for young learners we believe that in-person learning works best. For that reason, our classes are all currently held in-person, and we take necessary precautions to ensure that students have a safe environment to learn in.

  6. My child is younger than 9. Can s/he join?

We love the enthusiasm – we have age-appropriate courses for kids 7-8 as well, check out our Young Inventors weekly classes! But if you’ve completed the Young Inventors course ahead of schedule, we’d definitely welcome you to this class so sign right up 🙂
