Program

Q: What types of online programs are available?

A: Our online courses can be taken in the following format

  • Online Camps : Total 8 lessons (4 sessions/week Mon-Thu). Each session will be 2 hours long (total of 16 hours)
  • Journeys in Scratch: Create your World with Code: 4 guided Scratch projects (4 session/week Mon-Thu). Each session will be 2 hours long (total of 8 hours).

Q: What is the difference between Online camps and Journeys in Scratch: Create your World with Code?

A: The main difference is that Journeys in Scratch: Create your World with Code is more suitable for kids who already have coding experience, or have a good understanding of other block-based visual programming languages. Our online course is designed for kids without coding experience.

Q: What’s the instructor to student ratio?

A: We maintain a 1:4 instructor-to-student ratio so that we can provide a better learning experience for your kids!

Q: Do you provide make-up sessions?

A: We do not offer make-up options for any missed session. We will instead provide your child access to the lesson materials of the missed session.

Q How long is the online class?

A: Each session is 2-hours and will be held via a heavily interactive format using Zoom conferencing.

Q : Do you offer any free trials?

A: As of the moment, we don’t offer trial classes for the sessions that we offer online. We recommend going through our course info page here with your child for an idea on the level of interest and engagement your child will have with the course.

Course Selection

Q: Does my child need to have any prior coding experience?

A: We recommend that kids attending our Journeys in scratch: Create your World with Code have Scratch experience or have a good understanding of block-based visual programming. Our online camps are open to kids with minimal or no experience.

Q: My child already has Scratch experience, What format should we sign up for?

A: We recommend signing up for the Journeys in Scratch: Create your World with Code. You can read up more about it here.

Q: My child is below the minimum age required as stated on your website. Can we still sign up?

A: The age group listed on our site is a guideline, not a strict requirement. Some exceptions can be made based on the child’s coding experience, and if you’ll like to be sure, please email us at [email protected] before you sign up so that we can double check.

Scheduling

Q: The class that my child is interested in has already started. Can my child still join?

A: It depends on the course and the number lessons missed. Please drop us an email at [email protected] and we’ll see what we can do!

Q: How many students are required for a class to be confirmed?

A: We require a minimum of 2 students for a class to be confirmed. Unless otherwise notified, the class will go ahead.

Q: What happens if the class does not meet the minimum requirements?

A: The minimum number of students required for a class to be confirmed is 2. In the event of low sign-ups, Saturday Kids will notify parent/guardians 14 days prior to the class starting. We reserve the right to cancel 7 days before the class if the minimum number of students is below 2, in which case the course fee that was paid will be refunded in full.

Q: I am interested to sign up but there is no available schedule that works for us.

A: We definitely would love to find a schedule that works for you! Please send us an email at [email protected] and will see if we can open a class that would be convenient for you.

Pricing

Q: What mode of payment do you accept?

A: Our online registration accepts Mastercard and Visa payments. We also accept cheque, bank transfer and cash payment – please email us at [email protected] for more info.

Q: How much are your course fees?

  • Online Camp : $590
  • Journeys in Scratch: Create your World with Code : $300
  • Curious Critters: Telling Stories Together with Code : $165

Q: Do you offer discounts for returning students/ multiple sign-ups?

A: Yes, please email us at [email protected] and we will provide you with a code that you can use.

Q: Do you offer refunds?

A: We don’t offer refunds but online registration can be cancelled within 24 hours of purchase and receive a 100% credit note. After 24 hours, no refunds/credit notes will be processed.

Course Preparation & Logistics

Q: Do we need to sign up for any account?

A: Yes, we recommend signing up for a Scratch account here if you’re attending Start with Scratch or a Repl account here if you’re attending Back to Basics.

Q: I can’t remember my child’s login details. What can I do?

A: Please send us an email at [email protected] and we can try to check our records.

Q: Does my child need any specific equipment join the online class?

A: Your child will need a laptop/desktop computer with a webcam/video conferencing and their microphone enabled.

Q: Will you be providing a certificate after the class?

A: Yes, we will be emailing you digital certificate of completion after the camp (Only applicable to online camps)

Holiday Camps and Term Program (Weekly Workshops)

Programs

Q: What types of programs are available?

A: Our courses are available in the following format:

  • Holiday Camps: 5 consecutive days (3 hours 15-min per day)
  • Weekly Workshops: 8 weeks (2 hours per week)
  • One-off workshop: 3-hours

Q: What is the difference between holiday camps and term program (weekly workshops)?

A: Both holiday camps and term program (weekly workshops) utilise the same curriculum and the main difference is the format in which it’s delivered. Holiday camps are held consecutively over 5 days (3 hours 15-min per day), whereas the term program is held over 8 weeks (2 hours per week).

Q: Do you do private lessons for individuals as well as groups?

A: We sure do! Please email us at [email protected] and let us know the number of participants and the age, as well as your preferred date/time/location/course.

Q: What’s the instructor to student ratio?

A: We maintain a 1:6 instructor-to-student ratio so that we can provide a better learning experience for your kids!

Q: Do you offer any free trials?

A: We do not offer any free trials at the moment but parents are more than welcome to come and visit our locations and observe how our classes are being conducted (from the outside).

Q: Do you teach kids with learning disabilities/special needs?

A: We strive to provide an inclusive environment for kids of all abilities and we have had kids with special needs attend our classes in the past. However, not all courses are suitable, and we strongly encourage parents to drop us an email at [email protected] to provide us with a brief background in order for us to make the necessary recommendations based on the child’s learning needs.

Q: Can parents sit-in and observe the class?

A: We generally do not encourage parents to sit-in the classes as we notice that children tend to behave differently when their parents are around (observing from outside for a short while is definitely fine!) If you are concerned about your child’s progress, it’ll be best to speak with the instructor after the class has ended.

Q: Do you organise any corporate workshops?

A: Yes, we sure do. Please send us an email at [email protected] and give us a brief background on what kind of program you would like to run and one of our team members will be in touch!

A: Our curriculum features courses that cater to both beginner and advanced students, so all kids are welcomed!

Q: My child has learnt Scratch before. Does he/she need to take it again?

A: It depends on his Scratch proficiency as well as the course that he’s interested in taking. It’ll be best if you can email us at [email protected] with a link to your child’s Scratch account, and we will have our curriculum team look at their projects to be able to assess and recommend suitable courses.

Q: What course should we sign up for?

A: This would depend on the age of the child, whether he/she has any prior coding experience as well as his/her interest. Send us an email at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help recommend!

Q: My child is in Primary 1 and will only turn 7 later this year, Can we still sign-up for the Start with Scratch course?

A: It depends. We noticed that some kids younger than 7 might find the concept of dragging and dropping blocks of codes using a mouse a bit challenging. So unless your child is comfortable with using the computer and the mouse, we will recommend that he/she start with our Tiny Techies course first before progressing to Start with Scratch.

A: We try not to disappoint kids who want to join our classes, so please email us at [email protected] and we will see what we can do!

Course Preparation & Logistics

Q: Do we need to sign up for any account?

Q: I can’t remember my child’s login details. What can I do?

Q: What does my child need to bring?

A: We ask parents to pack a small snack for their child and a jacket in case the room gets too cold for them. All the materials and various learning kits will be provided by Saturday Kids for in-class use.

Q: Do the kids take the kits home?

A: Unless otherwise specified, all kits are for in-class use only. If we have enough inventory, we might be able to sell it to you, alternatively, we can provide suggestions on where you can purchase these online.

Q: We received an SMS about a presentation. What is that about?

A: At the end of every holiday camp and weekly workshop (term program), we invite parents to join us towards the end of the session for the kids to share their work. Exact timing is shared via SMS, we’d love to have you join us!

Q: What time can I drop off and pick up my child?

A: You can drop your child off 15 min before the class starts and pick them up within 15 min after the class ends.

Q: My child just finished a camp and would like to continue. How do I know which course he/she can take next?

A: At the end of the course, you will receive a course follow-up email with recommendations on the courses that your child can take next. You might also wish to have a look at this course progression guide, and read a blog post we wrote about course progression. As always, we’re more than happy to help recommend a suitable course so feel free to email us at [email protected]m with your questions!

Policies

Q: What is your refund/withdrawal/make-up policy?

A: Please refer to our Terms and Conditions page for a more detailed explanation of our policies.

Q: Do classes go ahead on public holidays?

A: No, we generally don’t hold any classes during public holidays (unless otherwise specified). Any class that falls on a public holiday will be extended accordingly (e.g. If Monday is a holiday during holiday camps, then the class will end on Saturday instead of Friday).

Q: What if my child decides after attending the first or second class that this is not for them?

A: We understand that not all kids take to coding straight away. If your kid does not think the course suits them after attending the first two days for holiday camps and first three days for Term Classes, Saturday Kids will extend a credit note for 50% of the amount paid. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions page for more details.

Q: Where are your classes held?

A: We have 2 permanent locations, and these are located at Bukit Timah Plaza and Parkway Centre. During the holidays, we also conduct our holiday camps at 10 Square – our venue partner, located at Orchard Central.

Q: What are your operating hours and how do we contact you?
