  • Text-based programming and concepts
  • Building awesome projects such as websites using languages like HTML and CSS, and platforms like Github

All you need to know

Being future-ready in tech means learning how to learn.

And that’s exactly what this course is designed for! Using industry-standard languages to run programmes and build websites, students start thinking like tech professionals and gear their minds towards being future-ready.

From software to apps and websites, Python’s extensive library provides access to a multitude of system functionalities. You can pretty much code anything with it! Similar to the English language, the syntax of this text-based programming language is readable and easy to understand. With its gentle learning curve, young learners can learn structurally and apply it across other new concepts that they come across.

Along the way, they’ll also create interactive, data-driven projects using web-based technologies, learning and applying other coding languages like HTML, CSS, Javascript and more. The creator mindset click into motion as they build projects like websites, web-based projects and data-driven simulations that communicate the complexity of changing situations and some of the world’s most pressing problems!

With this venturing into the world of web-based technologies and applications, the possibilities are limitless. Kids feel empowered to bring their ideas to life – watch as they get excited about putting their creations and big ideas on the world wide web! 🌍

Through these weekly classes, kids will experience a new way of learning that thrusts them into the future – a pedagogy rooted in project-based learning, and an interdisciplinary curriculum inspired by the world’s most pressing challenges and promising ideas.

Oh! The stuff you'll learn

  • Write your first lines of Python code using repl – an online programming interface that doesn’t require any installation
  • Write a detailed step-by-step set of instructions which explains how to solve a problem (pseudo code)
  • Understand and practice working with the Command Line Interface (CLI)
  • Explore creative applications of web technologies
  • Learn and reinforce programming concepts (algorithm, conditionals, data structures, data types, functions, loops, variables)
  • Applying the concepts and languages learnt to build websites and apps
  • Understanding how these newfound skills can be used to tackle social issues and challenges
  • Learn how to learn and be self-equipped to explore new areas of tech with a curiosity mindset

Pedagogy

No lectures. No memorisation. No ONE right answer. Like real life, we're all about trying things out yourself, failing, figuring what went wrong & trying again. These are the skills & mindset that will last a lifetime and how we learn in real life. Let's get kids to learn how to learn. Because the kids who learn to learn become curious, inventive, resourceful human beings who solve real world problems to make a meaningful impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who is this course designed for?

This programme is great for teenage learners ages 13-14. No prior experience required, but if you do, that’s cool too!

  2. What’s the format of this course?

FutureReady: Think In Tech is a weekly programme specially designed for 13-14 year olds to think like tech professionals! Each term of classes consists of 8 weekly lessons of 2 hours each, and students work on various projects to get hands-on experience as they internalise their learnings.

  3. Can my child join in the next term of classes if s/he missed out on the previous term?

Absolutely! Whether for beginners or for those with slightly more experience, our term classes are designed to welcome new students at the start of every term 🙂 Do note however that we’re unable to include new students to an ongoing term as the lessons are progressive, so do sign up early to book your slot!

  4. What equipment will my child need?

We’ll provide all equipment and materials, but you may want to bring a jacket and light snacks in case s/he gets hungry!

  5. Are these classes available online?

We care deeply about optimising the learning experience of every child that passes through our doors, and for young learners we believe that in-person learning works best. For that reason, our classes are all currently held in-person, and we take necessary precautions to ensure that students have a safe environment to learn in.

  6. My child is younger than 13. Can s/he join?

We love the enthusiasm – we have age-appropriate courses for younger kids as well, check out our Tech Changemakers weekly classes that are suitable for 11-12 year olds! But if you’ve completed the Tech Changemakers course ahead of schedule, we’d definitely welcome you to this class so sign right up 🙂
