Course Summary

Learning outcomes:

In this second module, Part B, students will further explore the hardware capabilities of the Viviware Cell. They’ll learn about the Viviware Motor and Servo and combine both functionalities to create interesting hardware tools. These include a musical soundboard, as well as their very own final hardware project.

Over the course of 4 weeks, students will work with VIVIWARE, a prototyping tool that allows students to build and program various inventions. VIVIWARE consists of 11 different components (cells) that make up various inputs and outputs.

Combining it with VIVIWARE Cell, a node-based programming software, students will create various projects that will form the foundation of VIVIWARE knowledge. Students will then build more complex projects in subsequent modules.

By the end, kids will learn to:

  1. Understand how to use the VIVIWARE Cell app.
  2. Better understand the VIVIWARE Cell hardware components – Measure Cell, Slider Cell, Rotator Cell, Message Board, Color Picker, Button, LED and more.
  3. Simulate and prototype a final project to a real-world problem.

This Bootcamp wraps up with kids coming up with and creating their own inventions using the VIVIWARE Cell.

  • Suitable for Ages: 8-10, 11-14
  • Completes in: 8 hours in 4 weeks
  • Class Size of: 6 (1:6 teacher student ratio)
  • Price: SGD295 (U.P.) SGD265 (E.B. Special)

Upon completion of the course, the student would receive

  • A digital certificate of completion of the course
  • Video presentation of projects created by student

All About the Course

What do you do, what do you get, what do you need?

Let’s embark on a 4-week coding adventure with hardware and software with the VIVIWARE Cells.

In this bootcamp specially designed for hardware enthusiasts, we’ll explore how to shape an idea and turn it into reality through both hardware & software coding.

They’ll first get comfortable with the ins and outs of the VIVIWARE Cell – a modular, expandable computer chip that can be branched out into 11 different components.

These components range from sound, light, motion, sensors and more. Kids will learn how to deploy each part to fit their project ideas. Every creative combination of parts acts to encourage kids to tinker, build and create unique hardware applications.

This bootcamp will first teach kids the entire ideation process through Design Thinking Principles – Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. Then, they’ll deploy these concepts using VIVIWARE Cell and coding to create a digital clock using colour sensors.

By the end, our goal is to equip kids with grit, encourage them to get their hands dirty tinkering with tech, and cultivate their creative confidence to communicate their big ideas, seek genuine feedback, and receive constructive criticism.

Designed for kids ages 8 to 14.

No prior programming experience required.

Course Outline By Day

Format: In-person, at a Saturday Kids location.

Duration: 4 weeks, 1 day a week.

Here are what kids will be learning to create during the days of the course:

1. Create a Musical Soundboard while learning about Electronic Music.
2. Learn about Real World projects using Motors and Servos.
3. Throughly understand the VIVIWARE Cell hardware functions.
4. Reiterate and prototype a final project to a real world problem.

What if?

Should government regulations advise against in-person classes, this camp will be shifted online in an abridged 2h/day format. Students will receive an email with instructions about the online class.
