‘Tots & Tech: Animated story in Scratch Jr.’ is all about getting kids inspired and excited about the possibilities and wonders of tech.
In this beginner-friendly bootcamp, we want to get preschoolers inspired and excited about the wonders of tech. Using Beebots and Scratch Jr, kids are introduced to programming concepts, directional skills, math and more.
The magic in this boot camp happens when kids use the learnt concepts to create commands so they can effectively move their Beebots to desired locations, design their desired backgrounds and sprites in Scratch Jr and program them to react to triggers and commands. The possibilities are only limited by their creativity.
For the project assigned to this class, kids would be applying their newly acquired skills to create games and challenges with the Beebot and Scratch Jr respectively.
Format: In-person, at a Saturday Kids location.
Duration: 4 weeks, 1 day a week.
Here are what kids will be learning to create during the days of the course:
- To describe the different parts of the Scratch Interface (Stage, Sprite, Backdrop).
- To create, edit and delete sprites and backdrops.
- Use the backdrop, sprites, different motion blocks and event trigger to create a simple animation.
- To wrap it all up by creating an animated story using multiple backdrops.
Should government regulations advise against in-person classes, this camp will be shifted online in an abridged 2h/day format and replaced with the course, Curious Creatures: Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Students will receive an email with instructions about the online class.
